Cycling Products

I’ll be the first person to tell you that improving your cycling performance isn’t primarily about what bike you ride, the equipment you chose or the supplements you take. That said, most of us are looking for every advantage we can find to help us reach our greatest potential in training and racing. I am a fan of trying different things until I find what works best for me, what I have confidence in and what helps me to be the best athlete that I can be. Whether it is reliable performance equipment, supplements that help me perform and recover or products that make cycling more enjoyable, I am always searching for great products that make life on the bike better. In that interest, I want to share what I have found to be helpful to me. I encourage you to try what you find products that work for you and your interests and goals. Here are some things that I really like and have found to work well for me.

Cycling Accessories-

 Speedsleev Seatsleev-

This is a great , innovative saddle pack which secures your spare tube, co2 inflator, and other tools in a neat pack that doesn’t rattle and bounce around under your saddle. They are available in different sizes to fit your needs and are easy to use and swap between bikes. Conveniently carry what you need and don’t worry about having a bulky, unsightly saddle bag under your seat!

Fix It Sticks-

These are one of the coolest inventions that I have come across. Fix It Sticks are a must have for me on any ride. While I rarely need them, when I need to make an adjustment to my bike out on the road, these are awesome. They give me the ability to adjust or tighten almost every hex bolt on my bike and do so with confidence. Mine have 3,4 and 5 mm hex bits and a philips head. I have used them to adjust saddle height, bar clamps, and derailleurs. While ideally, these adjustments are made at home with my regular tools, having Fix It Sticks allows me to make emergency adjustments easily.

Cycling Supplements-

Beet Elite-

Beet root juice has been shown in studies to significantly improve endurance performance. In my experience, I have found that taking a beet juice supplement prior to a hard training ride or bike race to help my performance and make it easier to go hard when I want to. I really like Beet Elite because it is convenient and easy to use. Simply empty a packet in a few ounces of water and drink it 30 minutes before your race or workout. It is easy to pack and transport and not as messy as having beet juice and it is highly concentrated so you are getting the maximum effect.

Skratch Hyper Hydration-

If you find that you sweat a ton and are covered in salt at the end of your bike rides and races, this might be just the thing for you. This is not an ordinary electrolyte drink, but a rather, a drink designed to help you preload with sodium to help maintain adequate electrolyte levels for optimum performance in extreme conditions. I have found this to help me, especially in hot and humid conditions. WARNING- Don’t use this lightly, there is a high amount of sodium in this drink and improper use can cause health problems.

Recovery-

Trigger Point Grid Foam Roller_

Foam rolling is a great way to help break up muscular trigger points or knots and recover from those hard training efforts and races. I have really liked the Trigger Point Grid roller and find that it is easy to use and effective at targeting those deep muscle knots that form from repeated hard training and racing. This roller has a prominent place in my recovery routine and travels with me to many races!

Vega Recovery Accelerator-

This recovery drink mix works so well that it can be hard to believe. I use this after a hard training ride or race to help me recover quickly and be able to train or race again the next day. Over the last year, I have used this consistently and have found that when I do, my legs feel fresher and ready for hard riding the day after a race. This is a quick and effective way to get a high quality mix of protein, carbohydrate and a myriad of other ingredients to help speed recovery.
